Projects
As an immigrant to New Zealand, the topics of cultural identity and sense of belonging are close to my heart. I’ve been exploring these topics in my photography and design projects. I am fascinated by our sense of belonging (or lack thereof) and the elements that make up our identity.
I am a finalist in the 2018 World of WearableArt™ Awards with a garment that is heavily influenced by my Dutch heritage and the link I now have with New Zealand. In September and October my garment will appear in the stage in front of an audience of up to 60,000.
In 2015 I initiated the photography project Dutch New Zealand which received funding from the Netherlands Embassy as well as the Wellington City Council. The year-long project saw me travel throughout New Zealand to photograph and interview Dutch immigrants, resulting in several exhibitions, an online gallery and permanent display of several portraits in the Dutch museum in Foxton.
I was the recipient for the Sony/AIPA Student award for my fine art project Belonging in which I explored a sense of home and cultural identity in our personal interior.
Lifestyle Photography – people, places and spaces
I shoot lifestyle and travel photography for a wide variety of clients. My work has featured in some of New Zealand’s most popular print magazines as well as online publications. Some of my clients include Your Home and Garden magazine, Homestyle magazine and Manual magazine. I tend to shoot people where they are most comfortable, in their homes or studios and other work places. I have a passion for analogue photography and often use 35mm or 120mm film, creating a distinctive style. Have a look at my portrait work here, my interiors gallery here and my travel photography here.
